A study of crack-forming causes and internal forces of hollow-block wharf

This paper presents the results of a thorough study of crack-forming causes and internal forces of a hollow-block type wharf of a port in China. The study includes the investigations through strength model testing, photoelastic testing and 3-dimensional finite element method analysis. From the test and analysis results, causes of cracking are analyzed and suggestions for design and construction of such type of wharf are put forward.
